How to Export a Client's Selected Music into a Serato Playlist

This guide walks you through exporting the music your client has selected in Vibo into a Serato-compatible .crate file.

Heads up: Since Serato's last update to 4.0, Serato only reads .crate files. Using a different DJ software? You can still use the M3U option instead.

Before you start

If this is your first time exporting, or if your scanner isn't matching songs the way you expect, open Prep Mode and confirm your Device is selected.

If you haven't downloaded the scanner yet, see Getting Started with Vibo Scanner.

If your scanner is already set up and matching cleanly, you can skip ahead.

Steps to export

  1. Open the event in Vibo and click Prep Mode in the top navigation bar.

  2. Review the song list and pick the best matches — the matching score will help you identify them.

  3. Select the section you want to export. You can mark sections as Done in the left column as you finish each one.

  4. Click Download Playlist in the top-right corner.

  5. In the Export to Serato dialog, configure your options:

    • Playlist title — auto-generated from the event and section name; editable.

    • All selected files or Only flagged songs.

    • Playlist order — Most liked, Newest, Oldest, or Custom.

    • Flag unmatched songs — toggle as preferred.

  6. Scroll to the bottom of the dialog and enable the "Download as .crate file for Serato" toggle (labeled Beta). If this is off, no .crate file will be generated. This is the step DJs miss most often.

  7. Once enabled, a "Pick Serato folder" option appears. What happens next depends on your operating system.

What happens next — Windows vs. macOS

On Windows, click Pick Serato folder and navigate to your Subcrates folder. The default path is: C:\Users\UserName\Music\_Serato_\Subcrates

Select that folder and the .crate file writes directly there.

On macOS, there is no folder picker. The .crate file downloads automatically to your Downloads folder. You then need to drag it into your Subcrates folder manually:

/Users/YourName/Music/_Serato_/Subcrates

Open or relaunch Serato

If Serato was already open while you were exporting, close and reopen it so it picks up the new crate. The crate should now appear in your library as a playlist with all your exported songs.

Storing music on an external hard drive?

If your music library lives on an external drive, you'll point Serato to the Subcrates folder on that drive instead. See: Exporting .crates to Serato using an External Hard Drive.

Troubleshooting

  • Missing songs. If any songs don't appear in Serato, ensure they are available in your music library (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music, or local files).

  • File errors. Re-export the file if you encounter issues, and make sure your Serato software is up to date.

  • Custom playlist order. Arrange songs in Vibo before exporting if you want a specific sequence in Serato.
